Do you know what medications are used to treat IBD?

Treating Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) typically involves a variety of medications tailored to the severity and type of the condition.
The mainstay of treatment includes:
• aminosalicylates (like mesalasine), which help reduce inflammation in the intestines, especially in mild to moderate cases.
• corticosteroids such as prednisone, during flare-ups, are often used to quickly control inflammation, but they are not suitable for long-term use due to potential side effects
• for longer-term management and to prevent relapses, immunosupresives like azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine are prescribed- maintain remission
• In more severe cases or when other treatments fail, biologic therapies such as infliximab, adalimumab, ustekinumab, vedolizumab in CD, and additionally mirkizumab in UC or small molecules (ozanimod, tofacitinib, filgotinib in UC and upadacitinib in both) are recommended.
Additionally, some patients may require antibiotics, nutritional supplements, or even surgery in some cases.
